Before you decide, three things worth knowing
THE FOUR TYPES
Which climber suits your space
Rocker arch
Rocks one way up and becomes a climbing ramp the other. The most adaptable piece we sell, and the easiest to store when the room has to become an adult room again.
Pikler triangle
Rungs sized for small hands, a deliberately limited height, and nothing electronic about it. Most fold flat against a wall. See all Pikler triangles.
Triangle with ramp or slide
Adds a second route up and a way down. Takes noticeably more floor space than a triangle alone, and most versions do not fold, so measure before ordering.
Swedish wall and wall bars
Uses almost no floor space and carries more weight, so it lasts into school age. Requires a solid wall and correct fixings. Read the mounting notes before ordering.
THE PART PEOPLE SKIP
Space, and what goes underneath
A climber needs more room than its own footprint, because children fall sideways as often as they fall down.
- Leave clear floor on every sideNot against a radiator, a glass table or a bookcase. Give it space to be fallen off, in all directions.
- Put something soft underneathHardwood and tile are unforgiving. A thick play mat under and around the climber does more for safety than any feature on the frame itself.
- Check it folds if your room is sharedMost triangles fold flat. Ramps and Swedish walls generally do not. If the living room has to become an adult room in the evening, that matters more than the price.
BEFORE YOU BUY
The questions parents actually ask us
What age is a climber suitable for?
We do not set our own age ratings. Each manufacturer states an age range and a weight limit for their frame, and that is listed on the product page. As a general position, we do not recommend climbing equipment for children under 3 years old unless an adult is supervising closely and continuously. Whatever the age, keep the surrounding floor clear, put something soft underneath, and read our safety recommendations before first use.
How long will they actually use it?
Longer than most toys, which is the point. A rocker arch stays useful for years because it works two ways up. Swedish walls carry on into school age. If you are choosing between a cheaper fixed frame and one that folds and converts, the convertible almost always works out cheaper per year of use.
What weight can they hold?
It varies by frame and it is listed on each product page. If an older sibling or a parent is going to climb on it too, check that figure before ordering rather than assuming.
What finish is on the wood?
It varies by manufacturer. Where a range has been independently tested, the report is on our certifications page, and the certifications that apply to a specific item are listed on its own product page. If it is not listed there and you want to know, email us and we will find out.
Do they come assembled?
Most arrive flat packed with the fixings and instructions included. Folding triangles are usually the quickest. Ramps, slides and wall mounted frames take longer. Assembly detail is on each product page.
Do you ship from Canada?
Yes. Everything on this page ships from within Canada, so there are no customs charges or duties on arrival. Delivery times and regional exceptions, including the northern territories, are in our shipping policy.
