A play mat on its own

Most families here start with the mat and add panels later, once the baby is properly mobile. If you already know you need containment, the convertible sets are better value than buying the two separately.

How big, and how thick?
Almost every return we see comes down to one of these two being wrong. Both are listed on each product page under Specifications.
- Measure the floor first, not the babyMark the area out with tape before ordering. A mat that is slightly too big cannot be trimmed, and one that is too small stops being useful the moment they start crawling.
- Thicker absorbs more, but folds less easilyThicker mats cushion a real fall from standing and mute noise for neighbours below. Thinner ones store and move far more easily. Pick for your floor, not the photo.
- Hard floors change the answerOn tile, concrete or laminate, go thicker than you think. On carpet you can usually go thinner.

What is actually in these mats?
Our AlZiP and Ggumbi playroom ranges have been independently tested and found free from lead and heavy metals, formaldehyde, flame retardants, bisphenol A, toluene and volatile organic compounds. The original lab reports are on our certifications page. Certification varies by product, so check the individual product page for what applies to the item you are buying.
Will it slide around on a wooden floor?
The heavier folding mats generally stay put under their own weight. Thinner rolled mats can move on smooth hardwood, particularly with a toddler pushing off them. If your floor is very slick, a thin rug underlay solves it for a few dollars.
How do I clean it?
A damp cloth for everyday spills, mild soap for anything worse. Avoid bleach and solvents, which break down the surface coating over time. Fabric covers on the bumper bed styles are removable and machine washable, which is worth having if you are still in the milk stage.
What age is a playpen useful for?
Typically from when a baby starts moving independently, around six to nine months, until somewhere near two, when most children begin objecting to being contained. Modular panel sets stretch that a little because you can open them into a wider room divider rather than a pen.
Does the mat fit inside the playpen?
On the convertible sets, yes, they are designed as matched pairs and the product page states which mat fits which pen. If you are buying separately, check both sets of dimensions before ordering. If you are unsure, email us the two products and we will confirm.
Do you ship from Canada?
Yes. Everything on this page ships from within Canada, so there are no customs charges or duties on arrival. Delivery times and regional exceptions, including the northern territories, are in our shipping policy.
