Some children stay put at night. Others do not. The KAI is a Montessori house bed for the second kind, with rails that run the entire way round the frame rather than along the sides only, and a gate at one end that a toddler can work themselves.

It sits on the floor, so getting in is a step rather than a climb. The rails stand 22 inches tall, which is high enough to hold a mattress and a duvet in and a determined sleeper on the right side of them. The roof frame is left open, so lights or a canopy can hang from it, or it can stay plain.

Assembly and care

Assembly is required. It arrives flat packed with a manual and the hardware you need. Plan on two people and a couple of hours rather than doing it alone in a hurry. Follow the manufacturer's manual for placement, clearances and any age guidance.

Wipe the frame with a damp cloth and dry it. Check the fixings every few months and after the bed has been moved, and retighten anything that has worked loose. The gate hinges are worth checking at the same time.

How long does delivery take?

What if a part is missing or damaged?

Contact us with your order number and a photo. We will arrange a repair or replacement part rather than making you return the whole item, and damage on arrival is not a case where you pay return shipping.

Can I return it?
